When I am out an about with pet owners, a lot tell me that they don't bathe their dogs. They either bathe them at the groomer or at a local pet wash. They all complain that the dog rolls and scratches when they return. They ask me why and what to do.
First the reason. Groomers use bulk shampoos that may contain levels of Sodium Laureth Sulfate that can be dangerous to the dogs health. Many use bluing shampoos for white dog to get them whiter. Same thing, high levels of SLS. These shampoos are cheap and lather well. The problem is that they are causing the skin irritation because the stuff is toxic and the residue is hard to wash off. What to do? Take your own shampoo with you to the groomer or the bathing establishment. We designed our Muttineer for our dog Disney because he was exposed to a bad bathing while we were on a trip to Florida. The stuff they used drove us to a night long ordeal with him and to a holistic Vet and a cortisone shot the next morning. So take your Muttineer or favorite clean pet shampoo with you. The knowing that your pet is safe is worth the effort. ...and plase don't forget to tell them to not put any perfumes on your pet. That can even be worse for their skin. Regards, Bob |
