My sister-in-law just found out she is pregnant and I was trying to (gently) persuade her not to have her hair colored while she is pregnant. Am I worrying too much or is it safe to use hair colors when pregnant?

Hair coloring is not good for you period. But I was told when I was pregnant that its ok to get your hair highlighted because the dye doesn't actually touch your scalp (therefore does not get absorbed). Please don't go by this, I am not sure how true it is, though it seems reasonable... Just wanted to let you know what I was told!

P.S. Maybe henna would be a better alternative? I don't know much about it but I know it is better for you than regular hair dye...

Thx Jenni--she may consider highlights, sounds safer though you're probably right no hair dye is really safe!
