I love for my hair to be shiny but I am starting to worry about the spray shines I had been using-I read that they contain silicone polymers that don't rinse off easily and eventually they build up and cause the hair to dry out. I found a "hair mask" recipe for shiny hair, since I love avocado thought I'd try it--take 1/2 avocado (peeled & pitted) and in small bowl mash it and add 2 Tbsp vodka, 2Tbsp honey and 1 egg yolk--mix with fork to create a creamy mixture. Apply to just shampoo'd hair that's been towel dried. Leave on for 30 mins., then rinse well, shampoo & dry/style as usual. I'll let ya know how it goes!

Smiler I almost forgot to let everybody know how this worked so thanks for the reminder Alissa I have to say I am wowed by the results! My hair turned out silky feeling and very shiny! It is a bit of a funky feel when you first put it on hair, and one of the side benefits is a pleasant slight tingling, cooling feeling on the scalp. In fact after I washed it out my scalp was still feeling super refreshed!

I would recommend this treatment to all. Some tips on mixing it up...use a ripe avocado (one that is maybe 1 day overripe) so that it mashes into a smooth paste. Use room temperature egg yolk, unless you want it to feel cooler. I used a little bit more honey than recipe called for-because I was afraid the mixture would be runny. Nice surprise--it was not drippy. I put one of those little disposable shower caps on for the 1/2 hour. I think if your hair is very long you will want to double recipe (use whole avocado)and maybe pin up hair?

I usually shampoo with Island rx. Whenever I feel I have a more oily scalp, I shampoo with Windsurfer. I like switching back and forth. I used Windsurfer to wash my hair first; then applied the mixture for 1/2 hour; then shampoo with Island rx. Love the way it looks and feels and it is shiny!

One other thing, if you don't need to use the other 1/2 avocado, sit down and enjoy eating it. Definitely worth it, knowing I was doing something really good for my hair and my skin at the same time Smiler
